LIVE: India Signs Record Tejas Fighter Jets Deal as IAF’s MiG-21 Retires | N18G
India has signed a defence deal worth ₹62,370 crore ($7 billion) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for 97 Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets, including 68 single-seaters and 29 twin-seaters, with deliveries starting in 2027-28. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the aircraft, upgraded with indigenous radar and electronic warfare systems, will boost the Indian Air Force’s capabilities. The order is the largest ever for Tejas, following a 2021 contract for 83 jets. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force will retire the MiG-21 after nearly six decades of service. India also test-fired an Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based launcher, its first such launch.
