Firstpost Italy Probes Claim Rich Tourists Paid to Shoot Civilians in Bosnia War | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Italy has opened a formal investigation into allegations that wealthy foreign nationals paid to access sniper positions during the Bosnian War and fired at civilians during the siege of Sarajevo. The alleged incidents date back to the 1990s and centre on testimony collected by Italian writer Ezio Gavazzeni, supported by claims referenced in the 2022 documentary Sarajevo Safari. Reports suggest “sniper tourists” paid between $92,000 and $115,000 for the killing. Serbian veterans and British soldiers have denied the allegations. Prosecutors in Milan are examining whether Italian citizens were involved and whether the case could lead to murder charges, as investigators review historical evidence.
