India voted in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on peacefully resolving the Palestine issue through the two-state solution. The declaration endorsed by the 193-member General Assembly condemned the attacks against Israel by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza. The resolution, introduced by France, secured overwhelming support with 142 nations voting in favour, 10 against — including Israel, the US, Argentina and Hungary — and 12 abstentions. The declaration urged Israel’s leadership to make a clear public commitment to a two-state solution, including the creation of a sovereign and viable Palestinian state.
