Big boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative in the Defence sector. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden test flight of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the coast of Odisha. The air defence weapon system is entirely developed indigenously and is a multi-layered air defence system. It comprises Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAMs), Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles and high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW). During the test, IADWS destroyed two high-speed fixed-wing UAVs and a multi-copter drone. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO on its feat. He said that the IADWS would strengthen the defence of important facilities.
