Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison after a Paris court found him guilty of criminal conspiracy over accusations that the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi helped fund his victorious 2007 presidential run. Sarkozy, the president of France from 2007-12, was accused of taking millions of euros of illicit funds from Gaddafi to finance his campaign. Slamming the verdict as “politically motivated”, Sarkozy said will sleep in prison with his “head held high”.
