The Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out emergency landing and takeoff drills on a highway strip on Tuesday as part of the ongoing ‘Maha Gajraj’ exercise near the India–Pakistan border. The operation was conducted on the Bharatmala Expressway at Gandhav (Bakhasar), close to the Barmer–Jalore district border and about 40 km from the international boundary.

The drill highlighted the IAF’s preparedness and its ability to operate in rapidly changing wartime conditions. Sukhoi and Jaguar fighter jets, along with the C-295 transport aircraft, took part in the exercise. These aircraft used a specially built 3-km-long, 33-meter-wide stretch of the highway to perform controlled landings and takeoffs, showcasing the force’s capability to function in forward-area emergencies and near-conflict zones.
