Billionaire Elon Musk has launched his “America Party” in a bid to challenge the country’s “one-party system”. Musk said his party can serve as “the deciding vote” on contentious laws. Musk announced the new party after holding a survey on it. Musk said, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk is a former ally of US President Donald Trump. He headed the DOGE under the Trump administration. After exiting the DOGE, Musk publicly criticised Trump’s domestic spending bill, adding that it would lead to “debt-slavery”. Musk’s criticism of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” led to a public showdown between the two. Musk vowed to target the Republicans who backed the bill with his new party, which has been launched ahead of the 2026 midterm congressional elections.
