Eyewitness News ABC7NY Wild Moment Wheel Flies Off Truck in Traffic

A driver in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, was less than thrilled when one of the front wheels of his new Dodge truck completely detached and rolled away on January 22.

Footage filmed by Nathan Russell with Meta smart glasses shows the wheel popping off as he drives. He then steps out of the car and captures the bare axle.

Russell told Storyful he had hit a pothole earlier in his 150-mile journey with a coworker, which he believed cracked several wheel studs, causing the remaining fasteners to fail catastrophically after dropping off his passenger 70 miles later.

“I think the pothole had broken two or three of the studs, and the weight of the truck caused the remaining studs to break,” Russell said. “I traded a 2014 Ford F-150 3.5 Ecoboost for this. But I’m regretting my decision now.”

“Sir, the tire left the chat!” he joked on YouTube.
