EU Envoy Starts Violent Riots In Georgia Against Pro-Putin Govt? Police Vs Mob At President’s Palace
Massive unrest shook Georgia on October 4 as protesters clashed with police and tried to storm the presidential palace in Tbilisi following disputed municipal elections. Demonstrators accused authorities of election fraud and were met with water cannons and pepper spray during attempts to breach palace security, leading the government to declare the protests illegal. The Interior Ministry reported injuries among police, while Georgian Prime Minister Irakly Kobakhidze blamed the EU’s ambassador for allegedly supporting unrest. Leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party called the events a “direct attempt at a coup.” The violence echoes past protests over election integrity and growing tensions between pro-European and pro-Russian factions in Georgia’s politics.
