Ensure all people in rural areas have access to basic medical services
Access to medical services is a basic need of the people, and a deep concern of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He has emphasized that it is important to build up a rural medical and healthcare system that fits the countryside and features quality and efficiency, so that residents could enjoy access to fairer and more systemic medical services in their vicinity.
On June 8, 2022, President Xi inspected a medical service center in Yongfeng Village of Taihe Town in Dongpo District, Meishan City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. President Xi stressed that the villagers are concerned about health care the most after they have enough to eat and wear. The building of a rural health care system must be advanced to ensure that all the people in rural areas have access to basic medical services.
Today in Yongfeng, villagers enjoy high-quality medical services right at their doorstep: diagnosis supported by remote collaboration with experts from municipal hospitals; prescriptions supported by chronic disease management systems; follow-up visits delivered to homes by public health service vehicles… These changes reflect the steady improvement in the service capability of China’s primary-level medical institutions. Through a series of practical measures and innovative approaches, receiving good medical care close to home is becoming a tangible benefit for the people.
