दिवाली पर सऊदी अरब ने अपने देश में काम करने वाले प्रवासी मजदूरों को बड़ा तोहफा दिया है.. करीब 70 साल पुराना कफाला सिस्टम खत्म कर दिया है…सऊदी के ऐतिहासिक फैसले ने पूरे अरब जगत में हलचल मचा दी है. इससे 1 करोड़ 30 लाख प्रवासी मजदूरों को मिली है…13 मिलियन मजदूर यानी सऊदी अरब की लगभग 42% आबादी विदेशी है. ये वो लोग हैं, जिन्होंने शहरों को खड़ा किया, तेल की पाइपलाइनों को बिछाया, सऊदी के महलों को सजाया. अक्सर इनका पासपोर्ट छीन लिया जाता था, तनख्वाह रोक ली जाती थी और कई बार मजदूरों को महीनों तक बंदी की हालत में रखा जाता था. खासकर घरेलू कामगार महिलाएं, जो घरों में कैद होकर काम करती थीं. वो सबसे ज्यादा उत्पीड़न झेलती थीं. जून 2025 में सऊदी अरब ने आधिकारिक तौर पर इस सिस्टम को खत्म करने का ऐलान किया था… ऑफिशियली इसे खत्म करने का प्रोसेस अब पूरा हुआ है…सभी विदेशी वर्कर्स के लिए स्पॉन्सरशिप सिस्टम की जगह कॉन्ट्रैक्ट-बेस्ड एम्प्लॉयमेंट मॉडल लाया गया है.

Their passports were often confiscated, their salaries withheld, and workers were often held captive for months. Women domestic workers, especially those confined to their homes, faced the most abuse. In June 2025, Saudi Arabia officially announced the abolition of this system. The process of officially abolishing it is now complete. The sponsorship system has been replaced by a contract-based employment model for all foreign workers.
