A “cylinder war” has erupted across the country. In some places, people are blocking roads in their quest for cylinders, while images of physical altercations are emerging from others. Massive crowds have gathered outside gas agencies; meanwhile, hoarders are seeking to exploit this crisis for personal gain. Cylinders are being black-marketed—some are even being hidden away in graveyards. However, authorities—from UP, Bihar, and MP all the way to Maharashtra—are taking strict action against these hoarders. Raids are being conducted across cities and towns. Yet, despite all these efforts, the situation remains out of control. Is there a genuine shortage of gas, or has the rumor mill spiraled the situation out of control? We explore this in our report.
