Delegates arrive in Pyongyang ahead of the Ninth Party Congress
Delegates and members of the audience arrived by train at Pyongyang station for the upcoming Ninth Party Congress on February 16. The country will convene the Party Congress, a major political undertaking aimed at showcasing leader Kim Jong Un’s absolute grip on power and his image as a benevolent leader at home and as head of a world-class military. The Kim family has maintained near‑total control of North Korea since its founding after World War Two and experts say that fear of being seen as anti‑revolutionary drives strong displays of loyalty to the leader.
