Democrat and Republican leaders joined CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday to discuss the looming government shutdown, with each side deflecting blame at the other.

House Speaker Mike Johnson blasted Democrats, who he said are “pursuing a very reckless strategy” for political reasons, for holding out against passing a stopgap funding bill that would avoid a shutdown of the U.S. government at the end of the day. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats “will not support a partisan Republican spending bill that continues to gut the healthcare of the American people.”
