Anthropic faces off with the Pentagon
Anthropic has until 5:01 p.m. ET on Friday to decide whether it will agree to allow the Department of Defense to use its models in all lawful use cases without limitation.

If it doesn’t, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has threatened to label the company a “supply chain risk” or force it to comply by invoking the Defense Production Act.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Thursday said the company “cannot in good conscience” agree to allow the Department of Defense to use its AI models in all lawful use cases. The company says its negotiations with the DOD are still ongoing.
