White House defends Trump calling a female reporter 'piggy'

The White House came to President Donald Trump’s defence on Thursday (Nov 20) after he called a female reporter “piggy” during a tense exchange about the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — describing the remark instead as an example of Trump’s “frankness” and “transparency.”

The moment, which quickly went viral, took place aboard Air Force One last week. When Bloomberg reporter Catherine Lucey pressed Trump about Epstein’s emails, where Epstein alleged Trump “knew about the girls,” he leaned toward her, pointed his finger, and said: “Quiet, piggy.”

The Society of Professional Journalists issued a statement this week condemning Trump’s disparaging language.

“Nobody expects presidents to be reporters’ biggest fans,” SPJ Executive Director Caroline Hendrie said. “But targeting women reporters with humiliating insults should not be tolerated.”
