President Donald Trump aims to involve American companies in rebuilding Venezuela’s struggling oil industry as the US operation against Maduro’s regime unfolds. Venezuela boasts the world’s largest proven oil reserves but its production has plummeted due to mismanagement and US sanctions. Trump cited the need to reclaim US investments in Venezuela’s energy sector as a key driver behind the US decision to oust Maduro.

“We’re going to have our very large US oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country,” Trump said on Saturday.
