CNA Trump Tariffs: US president says he will increase levies on South Korean goods from 15% to 25%

South Korea is on a mission to reassure the US that it remains committed to its side of a trade deal with the US, after President Donald Trump threatened to hike tariffs over what he sees as failure to act. Mr Trump warned he could raise tariffs on South Korean goods from 15% to 25%, targeting key exports like cars and pharmaceuticals. The agreement has been submitted to South Korea’s National Assembly. The ruling Democratic Party says it is looking to speed up the process and will push for deliberation to start next month. Seoul’s trade envoy says he will head to Washington soon for talks.
