CNA Trump administration will end temporary legal status for Myanmar citizens in US
United States President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday (Nov 24) moved to cancel temporary legal status for about 4,000 Myanmar nationals in the US, terminating the Temporary Protected Status designation granted to them since 2021. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said a review of current conditions in Myanmar no longer justified its status. The move sparked concern for those who may be forced to return to Myanmar, which has been in political turmoil since the military seized power in a 2021 coup. Muzaffar Chishti, senior fellow at the Migration Policy Institute, shares his insights on this development with CNA’s Asia Now.
