CNA Taiwan president shows support for Tokyo with photo of sushi as China-Japan rift deepens
Amid an escalating row, China has warned of a hit to commerce with Japan, if Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi does not retract her remarks on Taiwan. Beijing has threatened to resume a ban on all Japanese seafood imports. Although neither side has confirmed that this is going ahead, China has announced it wants to carry out safety reviews before it allows the produce to enter. Meanwhile, Taiwan has voiced support for Tokyo, with President William Lai posting a photograph of himself eating sushi sourced from Japan. Tan Yew Guan and Victoria Jen report.
