CNA South Korea’s ex-first lady gets 20 months’ jail, fine for bribery

A South Korean court has sentenced former First Lady Kim Keon Hee to 20 months’ jail, after finding her guilty of bribery. She was found to have accepted bribes from figures linked to South Korea’s Unification Church in exchange for political favours. However, Kim was cleared of two other major charges — stock price manipulation and violations of the political funds act — with the court saying there was insufficient evidence. Kim was also ordered to pay a 12.8 million won (US$9,000) fine and forfeit a diamond necklace. The ruling deepens the legal fallout from the collapse of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s administration. Lim Yun Suk reports from Seoul.
