Singapore and China may be the only two sovereign states with majority Chinese populations, sharing deep linguistic and cultural links, but Singapore is an independent, multiracial city-state with its own identity, political system and values, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan.

Speaking in parliament on Feb 27 as he set out his ministry’s priorities for the year, Dr Balakrishnan quoted former minister Lim Swee Say’s line “same same, but different”, adding that Singapore’s destiny is to remain distinct — not another small Chinese city. #singapore #sgnews #china
