CNA RSAF captain reacts to his viral message on evacuation flight from Saudi Arabia to Singapore

“To all Singaporeans on board, a warm welcome home.”

A simple message but one that struck a chord, as an RSAF pilot addressed his passengers on an evacuation flight home from the Middle East on Mar 13.

The recording of Captain Gerald Goh’s announcement resonated far beyond the cabin. A video of it, paired with scenes on board, has drawn 8.3 million views on CNA’s Instagram as of Mar 27.

Captain Goh told CNA the crew had rehearsed the message, knowing their passengers would be anxious and stressed.

But it was only later, after he had caught up with the news, that it sank in that what they had done on the mission “was very meaningful to others”.
