PM Lawrence Wong on US-China rivalry, Singapore’s position amid geopolitical tensions
"Geopolitical competition has returned with a vengeance," said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, while sharing his perspectives on geopolitical developments at the 14th S Rajaratnam Lecture on Wednesday (Apr 16).
Mr Wong laid out the global outlook and Singapore’s position amid the current geopolitical landscape, which he regarded as "becoming more fragmented and disorderly". He explained how countries are reexamining their strategic assumptions and recalibrating their policies.
As for US-China tensions, Mr Wong said the two countries are "now locked in a fierce contest for global supremacy" and while neither wants open conflict, miscalculations could trigger a more dangerous escalation.
