CNA Olympics committee bans transgender athletes from competing in female category events

Only biological female athletes — determined by a one-time gene-screening test — will be eligible to compete in female events at the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Thursday (Mar 26) after an 18-month consultation.
The new rules bar transgender athletes from these events, reversing previous guidelines that allowed participation if cleared by respective federations.
The IOC had long declined to set a universal rule on transgender participation, leaving such decisions to international federations. However, new president Kirsty Coventry made an immediate U-turn after taking over last year, saying her organisation would take the lead for a uniform approach. #olympics
