CNA New penal and criminal procedure codes take effect in Indonesia

Indonesia’s new penal and criminal procedure codes have come into force, marking a shift away from colonial-era laws. Officials say the updates bring Indonesia in line with today’s contemporary values. But civil society groups criticised them as marking a significant expansion of state and police power.
