CNA Myanmar’s election not an economic reset, says former UK ambassador

Myanmar’s first election since the 2021 coup has raised hopes among some businesses that political stability could help revive the economy. Former British ambassador to Myanmar Vicky Bowman tells CNA’s Asia First that the military-backed vote does not address the country’s fundamental problems. The ongoing civil war, along with power and internet instability, trade restrictions and corruption continue to undermine economic recovery, adds the former director of the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business and senior adviser of the Institute for Human Rights and Business.
