Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes Japan's Chugoku region

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck Japan’s western Chugoku region on Tuesday (Jan 6), the country’s meteorological agency said. No tsunami alerts were issued and there were no immediate reports of major damage.

The same region was hit soon afterwards by smaller quakes measuring magnitudes of 4.5, 5.1, 3.8 and 5.4.

The Shimane Nuclear Power Station, about 32km away from the epicentre of the first quake, reported no irregularities. #japan #japannews
