CNA Japan sees record snow as cold wave sweeps the country

A severe cold snap has swept across Japan, triggering record snowfall and burying some areas under more than a metre of snow. Regions including Hokkaido and Aomori have already seen snowfall exceed seasonal averages.

At least 10 people have died in snow-related accidents over the past week, many while shovelling snow or clearing rooftops, Japan’s internal affairs ministry says.

More heavy snow and rain are forecast on Tuesday (Jan 27), raising the risk of further disruption. #japan #japannews
