CNA Impact of Australia’s social media ban may take years to emerge: Analyst

Australia is investigating five major social media platforms over potential breaches of its under-16 social media ban, just months after the law came into force. Nicholas Carah, director of the Centre for Digital Cultures and Societies at the University of Queensland, tells CNA’s Asia Now that teens are highly motivated to bypass restrictions as social media is central to how they stay connected with friends, raising questions about whether platforms can realistically enforce such bans.
