CNA Hong Kong fire: Filipino domestic worker who saved baby lauded as ‘modern day hero’
A Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong who rescued a 3-month-old baby from the Wang Fuk Court fire has been praised by members of the Filipino community as well as her former employer for her bravery.
Amid the chaos, 28-year-old Rhodora Alcaraz, a newly arrived domestic worker, cradled her employers’ baby in a wet blanket while trapped in a smoke-filled room for several hours before being rescued by firefighters, her sister Raychelle Loreto told Reuters.
Alcaraz, who survived the incident but remains in the hospital, has been described by community members as a symbol of courage and compassion. Many overseas Filipinos in Hong Kong have lauded her act, calling her a “modern-day hero” and offering prayers for her recovery. https://cna.asia/4pLeAe9
