CNA Hong Kong fire: 3 arrested for manslaughter, police raid construction office
Hong Kong police on Thursday (Nov 27) arrested three people from the company responsible for renovation works at the Tai Po building where a massive fire broke out, on suspicion of manslaughter. All three are understood to be associated with Prestige Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd.
Police seized computers, documents, and other evidence. Earlier, officers also searched the office of Prestige Engineering and Construction for evidence.
Preliminary police investigation found that some of the exterior wall materials at Wang Fuk Court are suspected of failing to meet fire safety standards. There was also foam sealing outside some lift lobby windows. Police believe these factors caused the fire to spread rapidly.
The death toll from Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades rose to 44 on Thursday, with nearly 300 people still missing. #hongkong #hongkongnews #hknews
