CNA Filipino domestic worker praised for saving baby in Hong Kong blaze

A Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong is being praised as a “modern-day hero” for rescuing her employer’s 3-month-old baby during the Wang Fuk Court fire.

28-year-old Rhodora Alcaraz shielded the infant in a wet blanket while trapped in a smoke-filled room for several hours before firefighters reached them.

Ms Alcaraz, who survived but remains in hospital, was among more than 200 foreign domestic workers — mostly from the Philippines and Indonesia — living in the apartment complex. Seven Indonesians and one Filipino have been confirmed dead, with several others still unaccounted for. #hkfire #hongkong #hongkongnews
