The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia’s Afar region erupted on Sunday (Nov 23) for the first time in what experts say is 12,000 years, blanketing nearby villages in dust.

The sudden eruption sent a powerful ash column rising 9 to 14 kilometers into the atmosphere, before drifting towards Yemen, Oman and northern India, leading to flight cancellations. #ethiopia #ethiopianews
