CNA Education Minister Desmond Lee on easing teachers’ workload with support and tech

Singapore’s Minister for Education Desmond Lee said teachers’ workload varies by subject, level and duties — with “peaks and… troughs” across the year — so “there’s no singular number because it’s not practical”.

In a wide-ranging interview with CNA, Mr Lee outlined steps to support educators, including recommendations from MOE’s reimagining the teaching profession task force, more administrative staff and allied educators, and using EdTech to help with workload management. He also said schools have guidance and autonomy to calibrate workloads, alongside flexible work arrangements and staff manning.
