CNA Bridge partially collapses in Sichuan, China months after opening

Part of a recently opened bridge collapsed in Sichuan, China along a national highway linking the country’s heartland with Tibet on Tuesday (Nov 11). There were no reports of casualties. Police in the city of Maerkang closed the 758m Hongqi bridge to all traffic on Monday after cracks appeared on nearby slopes and roads. Conditions on the mountainside worsened on Tuesday afternoon, triggering landslides, leading to the collapse of the approach bridge and roadbed.
