CNA Army-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party set for landslide win Myanmar election
Myanmar’s military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party, won most of the contested seats in the first two rounds of voting, held in December and earlier this month. Combined with seats reserved for the army, the military and its allies are on track to hold
just under 400 seats in parliament, comfortably surpassing the 294 needed to form a government. Voting was not held in more than 20 percent of townships, due to the ongoing civil war. The election has been branded a sham by critics in Myanmar, as well as foreign governments and international human rights bodies. Leong Wai Kit reports.
