CNA American leader to visit China in April, Xi to visit US in 2026: Washington

The US president has held back-to-back calls with the leaders of China and Japan amid their festering dispute over Taiwan. The hour-long call with Xi Jinping was Mr Trump’s first known contact with the Chinese leader since a row erupted over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks, on a hypothetical situation in Taiwan that could draw in Tokyo. The American leader described the call with President Xi as “very good”, while making no mention of the self-ruled island. Tan Yew Guan and Nick Harper with more.
