CNA Acting Minister Jeffrey Siow on household economic resilience and wealth Gini coefficient

The government has made its best effort by combining survey data from the Household Expenditure Survey (HES) with administrative records and has progressively improved the coverage and quality of the wealth data captured. It will continue to study how data collection methods can be strengthened. Singapore relies primarily on survey-based approaches and there are no plans at this point to seek additional legislative or administrative powers to require more granular asset disclosures solely for inequality measurement. Senior Minister of State for Finance Jeffrey Siow, who said this in reply to parliamentary questions on Wednesday (Feb 25), told the House that the next cycle of the HES is planned for 2028, and the government will consider whether additional indicators can be provided.
