'A hard road' to regain Optus customers' trust after outage, says Singtel Group CEO

Southeast Asia’s largest telecom firm, Singtel, has reported a 14 per cent rise in first-half profit to S$1.35 billion (US$1.04 billion), driven by strong performances from subsidiaries Optus and NCS, and regional associates Airtel and AIS. But focus remains on its Australian arm, Optus, following a major service outage in September that disrupted emergency calls. In an exclusive interview with CNA’s Roland Lim, Singtel Group CEO Yuen Kuan Moon addresses how Optus is working to restore customer confidence and the immediate actions taken to strengthen service resilience. He says Australians have the right to be upset with Optus over the outage and it will be a “hard road” to regain their trust.
