CNA 14-year-old Singaporean student dealt with under Internal Security Act for ISIS radicalisation
A 14-year-old Singaporean student has been dealt with in November under the Internal Security Act for self-radicalisation by ISIS extremist ideologies. The youth aspired to travel overseas to fight for ISIS and die a martyr. He was barred from changing residence, travelling, or accessing the internet without approval.
His radicalisation began in early 2023 when he was exposed to ISIS videos online. Social media algorithms fed him more extremist content, and he became a staunch supporter by late 2023. He created multiple accounts to promote ISIS and encourage violence, simulating attacks at home. While aware of the illegality, he took steps to conceal his activities.
This is the third case of a 14-year-old dealt with under the ISA in the past two years, highlighting concerns about youth radicalisation at younger ages. https://cna.asia/46jTyf8
