Chinese FM: Germany reckoned with Nazism, Japan honors war criminals
At the Munich Security Conference on February 14, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi drew a sharp contrast between Germany’s post-war reckoning with Nazism and the decision by some Japanese politicians to visit a shrine which – among the country’s other war dead – honors convicted war criminals.
Wang said certain Japanese leaders had made erroneous remarks on the Taiwan question, which directly challenge China’s sovereignty and the post-war international order, and reveal that the ghost of Japanese militarism still lingers.
