China rejects US bid to link Jimmy Lai case to Hong Kong sanctions
#FMsays China on Friday rejected reported US efforts to seek Jimmy Lai’s release on “humanitarian grounds” in exchange for possible easing of some Hong Kong-related sanctions, saying Lai must be punished in accordance with the law and that the US’ unilateral sanctions on officials from the Chinese central government’s agency in Hong Kong and the government of #HongKong are illegal.
