China Daily 中国日报 Man With Knife Breaks Into Chinese Embassy in Tokyo

On March 24, a 23-year-old officer from #Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force broke into the Chinese embassy in Tokyo. Police later found a knife with a blade of about 18 centimeters hidden on the premises. According to reports, he said he would kill Chinese diplomatic personnel “in the name of God”.

#China says the incident is a serious breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and a direct threat to the safety of diplomatic personnel and facilities. China has lodged strong demarches and protests with Japan.

The case once again highlights the alarming rise of far-right extremism in Japan, as well as the risks associated with the unchecked expansion of its Self-Defense Forces. #MediaUnlocked
