Tibetan Buddhist temples are not only sacred sites of faith, they are also rich sources of plateau culture that integrate architecture, education and social functions. Since the 1980s, the Chinese central government has allocated special funds, including gold and silver, annually for the maintenance and restoration of Tibetan Buddhist temples, with cumulative investment exceeding 1.4 billion yuan ($200 million).
