In northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, steeds gallop across snowy grasslands in a New Year’s celebration.

Guided by the herdsmen of Zhaosu County, hundreds of horses put on a show of raw power with icy manes gleaming and hooves churning up the snow into waves of white dust. Drone footage captured the dramatic “snow curtain” produced during the spectacle, known locally as “Heavenly Horses Treading Snow.”
