What does France's next generation think of China-EU ties after Macron's visit?

French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Beijing and Chengdu is sparking reactions among young Europeans. Victor Helfenberger, a French master’s student studying international relations at Peking University with a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from France, says he’s “happy to see my president here” and sees the trip as a sign of deeper China–EU cooperation.

CGTN’s reporter Zheng Yuqiong spoke with him to find out what France’s next generation thinks about China–EU ties. Asked about his impressions of Macron’s visit, he believes Europe’s climate ambitions will benefit from stronger collaboration with China, from green energy to electric vehicles, where China leads the clean-tech race. For young EU professionals like him, stronger China–EU ties signal a future powered by joint innovation in both continents.
