“Qiaopi,” the letters and remittances once sent home by overseas Chinese, were an early form of foreign exchange. At the China Overseas Chinese Business Investment (Hainan) Conference, 38 projects worth 36.231 billion yuan (over $5 billion) were signed across aerospace, tourism and biotech – showing a shift from family support to business investment. More overseas Chinese now view the Hainan Free Trade Port as a new opportunity.
