CGTN Hundreds of Iraqis rally against U.S. interference after Trump threats

Hundreds of Iraqis rallied near the U.S. embassy in Baghdad on January 29 against what they see as U.S. meddling in the country’s political affairs and to demand the safeguarding of Iraq’s sovereignty.

The protest came after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Tuesday that the United States would “no longer help Iraq” if former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki returns to power, citing concerns over his previous policies and ideological leanings.

Al-Maliki on Wednesday rebuffed the “blatant U.S. interference” in Iraq’s internal affairs, describing it as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
