German composer and sound designer Thies Mynther, nominated for the Golden Coconut Award for Best Short Film with his work “Ploo” at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF), joined CGTN’s Zhang Meng for a conversation during his first trip to the tropical city of Sanya in south China’s Hainan province.

Mynther expressed admiration for Chinese audiences, noting their attentiveness, curiosity and impressive level of engagement with international cinema. He also highlighted the festival’s unique setting and cultural role, remarking, “It’s very meaningful that an event like this happens on such a beautiful, fascinating island.”
